Prof. Gihan V. Dias

Professor Dias graduated from the University of Moratuwa in 1985 and was awarded a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California in 1992. In addition to being a professor in the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Moratuwa, he has served as the CEO of the .LK Domain (a not-for profit top-level domain registry) since its inception in 1990. Prof. Dias was instrumental in setting up and running the academic Internet in Sri Lanka (LEARN) starting with Sri Lanka's first e-mail system in 1990, and ran the LEARN network for over 10 years. He provided leadership to the local-language computing initiative in Sri Lanka, and was responsible for the introduction of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) in Sri Lanka. He set up Sri Lanka's first and leading Computer Emergency Readiness Team -TechCERT and currently leads this organisation. He is also Acting President of the Internet Society - Sri Lanka Chapter. Prof. Gihan Dias was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame at an Awards Ceremony which took place on August 3,2013 in Berlin, Germany. Prof. Dias was among 32 inductees from around the world, who were instrumental contributors to the development and advancement of the Internet.





Dr. Roshan G. Ragel

Senior Lecturer
Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya.

Dr. Roshan Ragel is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He also serves as the Director of the Internet and Communication Services Unit at Peradeniya. Dr. Roshan completed his BSc Engineering degree at Peradeniya and his PhD at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. At present, he leads a young and vibrant research group, Embedded Systems and Computer Architecture Laboratory (ESCAL). His research interests are inclined towards micro-architectural design aspects of embedded microprocessors and their security and reliability concerns. His topics of interests include: Micro-Architectural Support for Reliability and Security in Embedded Processors, Side Channel Attacks and Counter measures, Application Specific Processor Design, and High Performance Computing including Hardware/Software Acceleration of Bioinformatics Algorithms. Dr. Roshan has co-authored more than 50 articles and a book. He has won number of awards for his scholarly work including the e-Swabhinami 2012 award in the e-Science & Technology Category from the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka. In the past, he has taken up Visiting Research Fellow positions at UNSW, Sydney a few times and UIUC, Illinois once.





Dr. Satchuthananthavale R.K. Branavan

Chief Scientist, Natural Language Processing
Millennium Information Technologies, London Stock Exchange Group.

Dr. Branavan heads a research group at Millennium Information Technologies, investigating novel machine learning algorithms for the software engineering and financial market domains. He has over 9 years of experience in enterprise software engineering, technology leadership and organizational management. Dr. Branavan completed his B.Sc. in Electronics at the University of Moratuwa in 1999, and his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012, winning MIT's Sprowls award for the outstanding thesis in Computer Science for that year. He has several first-author papers at international tier 1 research conferences, winning two best paper awards. His research interests include Natural Language Semantics and Grounded Language Acquisition, Natural Language Interfaces to Software Systems, Document Modeling of Computer Program Code, Code Generation from Natural Language Descriptions, and Pre-emptive Anomaly Prediction in Complex Systems.





Dr. Shantha Fernando
PhD (TUDelft), MPhil (Mora), BSc.Eng.Hons (Mora), MIET(UK), MCS(SL), MIE(SL), CEng

Shantha Fernando is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Moratuwa. He also served as the Director, Engineering Research Unit, University of Moratuwa. He is one of the founders and the Chief Advisor of TechCERT, a division of LK-Domain Registry. He obtained BSc Engineering Honours from the University of Moratuwa in 1993. He obtained his Master of Philosophy from the same university in 2000. His PhD was obtained from the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands in 2010. He became the first Chartered Engineer in Sri Lanka in the field of IT in the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL). He also served in the Council of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL). His expertise are in Computer and Information Security, Information Systems, and e-Learning. He has provided advisory services for many government and commercial organisations in the areas of his expertise since 1994.
