Prizes based on overall performance

Founded in 2017 by Professor Kunaratnam’s children in memory of their late father Professor Emeritus Kunaratnam. This prize is awarded annually to the student among the direct-intake students having the Best Performance obtaining highest OGPA in B.Sc. Degree Examination in Computer Science held at the end of Level-4S with a First Class or Second Class Upper Division. In case of tie, the GPA in Level-4S shall be considered. The award of prize would be given as a certificate and an amount of cash reward

Founded in 1989 by Mr. E. Canagalingam in memory of his late brother Mr. E. Sabalingam. This prize is awarded annually to the student among the Physical Science students having the Best Performance in Computer Science at the Special Degree Examination in Science and who obtains a First Class or Second Class Upper Division. The award of prize would be given as a certificate and an amount of cash reward.

The 21st batch of Physical Science and 6th batch of Computer Science graduates of the Department of Computer Science (DCS), University of Jaffna, have expressed their willingness to award a prize to the student with the best overall performance in the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree Examination in Computer Science. This gesture appreciates Dr. S. Mahesan’s thirty-three years of dedicated service at the DCS.

The following criteria shall apply to the above award:

The prize will be awarded to a student with the best overall performance in the Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Computer Science, based on their performance in Academic, Sports, and Other activities. These criteria are described as follows:

  1. Academic Performance
    •  A student should have obtained either a First Class or Second Class to be eligible for the prize
    • An applicant possessing an OGPA will be given points proportionate to the highest OGPA earned in that particular batch, i.e. 50×(OGPA/highest OGPA)
  2. Achievements in Sports Activities (minimum 10 points)
    • Claimed Marks in this section  should be endorsed by the Director/Sports, University of Jaffna.

The fifth batch of Computer Science graduates from the Physical Science programme within the Department of Computer Science (DCS) at the University of Jaffna has announced their intention to establish an award for the top-performing student in the individual research project during the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree Examination in Computer Science. This initiative is a token of gratitude towards Dr. S. Mahesan for his thirty-three years of devoted service to the DCS.

The following criteria shall apply to the above award:

  1. The prize will be awarded to a student in the Bachelor of Science Honours degree examination in Computer Science, based on their academic and research performances. A student to apply for this prize should have obtained at least a Second Class and minimum Grade of A- for the individual research project in Level 4. The criteria in claiming points are as follows:
    1. Academic Performance
      1. An applicant possessing an OGPA will be given points proportionate to the highest OGPA earned in that particular batch, i.e. 40×(OGPA/highest OGPA)

Note: In Section B, if the research was conducted as part of a team or in collaboration with others, the contribution of the individual student should be clearly demonstrated and marks would be allocated proportionally.

  1. A student shall be considered eligible for the award only if he/she gets a total of 40 points or more for Section b.
  2. In case of a tie in total points earned, the overall GPA of Level 4 shall be considered for the award. If there is a tie again, the award can be given to all students being in ties, dividing the cash price equally.
