Industrial Visit
The DCS has built strong linkages with IT-industries since year 2010. The DCS will organise a one or two days’ industrial visit to IT companies for the Level-2S students with the support of the Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM). From year 2010 to year 2015, students of the DCS have visited IT companies, namely, 99x Technology, CodeGen, hSenid Mobile Solutions, IFS, Millennium IT, MicroImage, Pearson Lanka, Virtusa, WSO2, and Zone 24×7. This visit enables students to know about the infrastructure facilities that are in IT industries and to discuss the latest trends in software development.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT – 2026
The Department of Computer Science (DCS) organised an industrial visit for Level 2S Computer Science students as part of CSC211S2: Emerging Trends in Computer Science.
During the 2023/2024 academic year, the industrial visit was conducted in Colombo and Jaffna on 07 August 2026, providing students with valuable exposure to the professional IT industry.
In Colombo, students visited five leading IT companies: IFS, SimCentric, Nagarro, VitalHub, and hSenid Mobile. The visits provided insights into professional work environments, industry practices, emerging technologies, and career opportunities in the IT sector.
In Jaffna, students visited four IT companies: UniComSD, Cognitix, Oyslans, and ApptimusTech. These visits provided first-hand exposure to the local IT industry and enabled students to understand the practical application of their academic knowledge in professional environments.
Overall, the industrial visits provided students with a comprehensive understanding of workplace environments, industry practices, emerging technologies, and professional expectations, while facilitating meaningful interactions with industry professionals. The visits also enhanced students’ awareness of the skills and competencies required for successful careers in Computer Science and Information Technology.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT – 2025
The Department of Computer Science (DCS) organised an industrial visit for Level 2S Computer Science students as part of CSC211S2: Emerging Trends in Computer Science, which introduces students to emerging areas of computing through guest lectures, technology talks, and industrial visits.
During the 2022/2023 academic year, approximately 94 students participated in industrial visits conducted in Colombo and Jaffna. In Colombo, 55 students visited WSO2, Nagarro, Calcey, SimCentric, and IFS. In Jaffna, 39 students visited Oyslans Group, UnicomSD, Apptimus Tech, and CodeLantic.
The visits provided students with valuable exposure to professional work environments, industry practices, organisational culture, emerging technologies, and industry expectations. Students also had opportunities to interact with industry professionals, explore career opportunities, and understand the practical application of concepts learned in the classroom.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT – 2024
The Department of Computer Science (DCS) organised an industrial visit for Level 2S Computer Science students as part of the course unit CSC211S2: Emerging Trends in Computer Science. This course explores five key areas through a combination of guest lectures, tech talks, and industrial visits. As part of the assessment, 10% of the total marks are allocated to the industrial visit report.
This academic year (2021/2022) the Industrial visit was conducted in Colombo and Jaffna to manage the 100 Level 2S students. Six companies have been selected from Colombo (Virtusa, IFS, Nagarro, Wiley, SimCentric) and five from Jaffna (3AxisLabs, Innovay, Oyslans Group, Apptimus Tech, CodeLantic).
INDUSTRIAL VISIT – 2011
SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies) organised a two day industrial visit for our undergraduate special degree students. The Department of Computer Science at the University of Jaffna, facilitated this industry awareness visit for the second consecutive year. The students visited IFS, Virtusa, Euro Center, eCollege, Cinergix Research and Sabre Technologies on the 17th and 18th October 2011 during their stay in Colombo.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT – 2010
The Computer Science undergraduate students had a two-day industrial visit in the Southern part of Sri Lanka. This industrial visit is a proud initiative of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Jaffna in collaboration with the SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies). Twenty four special degreee students and two senior lecturers visited Virtusa, IFS, MIT (Millennium Information Technology), eCollege, Cinergix Research and Sabre Technologies during their stay in Colombo from 11-12 November, 2010.
